The Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue depicts Vishnu riding a Garuda. In Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu is considered the protector of the Universe, while his trusted companion, Garuda, who is shaped like an eagle, symbolizes loyalty and selfless devotion. Kencana means gold, and both are decorated with crowns of gold mosaic. Garuda is also the national symbol of Indonesia and represents independence. Designed by renowned Balinese artist Nyoman Nuarta, the statue is made of copper and brass and has 754 modules with 25 steel segments weighing 900 tonnes, with the steel weighing 1300 tonnes. The statue and its pedestal are 120.9 meters high with a width of 64 meters at the wings of Garuda.
